How to follow up on an insurance quote: timing and scripts
By the QuoteDeck team · Updated · 2 min read
The short answer
Follow up the same day you send a quote, again within two days, and again before any enrollment deadline. Each follow-up should add something: answer a likely question, simplify the choice, or point to a date. Use text for quick check-ins, a call for decisions, and automate reminders so no quote goes quiet.
When to follow up
| When | Channel | Goal |
|---|---|---|
| Same day | Text | Confirm they received it and can open it |
| Day 2 | Call | Answer questions and ask which option they are leaning toward |
| Day 5 | Text or email | Simplify: restate your recommendation in one sentence |
| Before a deadline | Call and text | Point to the date, such as December 15 for January 1 ACA coverage or December 7 for AEP |
| After two weeks quiet | Text | A friendly close-the-loop message that makes it easy to say not now |
Follow-up scripts
Same-day text: "Hi Maria, I just sent your options. It is one link, and it opens on your phone. Option 2 is the one I would pick for you because your doctors are in network. Any questions, just reply here."
Day 2 call opener: "I wanted to see if anything in the options was unclear. Which one are you leaning toward?" Then stop talking.
Deadline text: "Quick heads up: to have coverage start January 1, we need to enroll by December 15. Want to lock in option 2 this week?"
Close-the-loop text: "I do not want to keep bugging you. Should I close out your quote for now, or would you like me to hold it?"
Automate the reminders, keep the words personal
The follow-up that never gets sent is the one that loses the deal. Let your system tell you which quotes have gone quiet and when, and keep the messages short and written the way you talk.
QuoteDeck tracks every quote in a pipeline, flags quotes that have not been accepted after a set number of days, and lets you text and call clients from their record with automated follow-ups.
Frequently asked questions
How soon should I follow up after sending an insurance quote?
The same day, with a short text confirming they received it, then a call within two days.
How many times should I follow up on a quote?
Four or five touches over about two weeks is reasonable, as long as each one adds something and the last one makes it easy for the client to say not now.
